The tale changes location now and moves to the mountains. This thumri is in Pahadi, known for its pukaar, its bellowing calls - the only way to communicate in the desolate mountains. An angry nayika asks her lover to get out of her sight, threatening to even kill herself if he doesn’t. The excited laggi on the tabla (a guest appearance by Pt. Arvind Kumar Azad) and Pahadi’s typically relentless harkats present an urbanised, sophisticated version of the original songs of the mountains. Will our nayika’s anger eventually fade, or will she just stay cross?
